Begin with the fireplace already in your home
A showroom display cannot establish whether the same log set belongs in your fireplace. The opening, existing equipment and identifying information form the starting point for the visit. Tell us whether you are replacing an existing set or considering gas equipment for the first time. Those requests can lead to different preparation and supply work.
We review the selected product requirements against the actual installation. The manufacturer defines suitable host fireplaces and minimum dimensions for its equipment. A set that can be placed inside the opening is not necessarily an acceptable installation. Any unresolved compatibility question belongs in the proposal before the equipment is ordered.
Confirm the type of set and its intended use
Vented gas logs installation and ventless gas logs installation need their respective manufacturer instructions. The latter is also called vent free gas logs installation. The chosen arrangement determines the requirements to be checked; one type should not be treated as a substitute for the other. Plan replacement work before removing the old set
Gas fireplace log replacement can be a component job or part of a larger change. We first identify what is installed and which parts remain serviceable and supported. A replacement should not be ordered only because the old and new logs have similar dimensions.
Ask whether the estimate includes removal of the old equipment, preparation, the proposed new components and any separate work needed at the fireplace. If an existing condition prevents the planned installation, the sequence should be agreed before continuing. Keeping these items separate makes it easier to compare proposals for the same job.
Prepare for the appointment and the handover
Keep the fireplace unused and cool for the arranged visit. Share any model information or earlier installation document already available; there is no need to dismantle the set to prepare. Mention access restrictions when booking so they can be considered in the appointment plan.
After installation, retain the equipment instructions and the agreed scope. Ask for the controls and care requirements to be explained before normal use. If the appliance later operates abnormally, leave it off and arrange service. A gas smell requires leaving the building and contacting the gas utility or emergency services from outside.
