What a gas log set is made of
There is more to a gas log set than the logs you see. Underneath sit a burner, a gas control or valve, an ignition system and often a pan of ember material, and the whole arrangement is designed and listed to work together. The logs are shaped and placed so the flame moves around them the way the maker intended. Most sets also come with their own ember material and a manual that shows where every piece belongs.
A set is therefore chosen and installed as one system. Swapping in a different burner, adding logs from another set or changing the ember bed can change how cleanly it burns. Our quote names every part of the set so you know exactly what is being installed.
Natural gas or propane, matched to the rating plate
Every set is built for one gas, named on its rating plate. One maker states plainly that its burner is only for the gas on the plate, cannot be converted to another, and must not be installed if the supply is different. A natural gas burner run on propane, or the reverse, will not burn as it was designed to, and that is why the plate and the supply are checked together.

Propane supply rules for a log set
Propane sets carry strict supply rules. One maker's manual requires the propane source to be regulated, located outside and hard-piped into the fireplace, and forbids a rubber hose or flexible connector run into the fireplace, a tank or cylinder inside the home and any connection to an unregulated tank.
The tank, the regulator and the line to the fireplace belong to the propane supplier or a gas contractor. We check what is there, name anything missing in the quote and fit the set once the supply meets the manual. Where a propane line already reaches the fireplace, we check its connection and regulator arrangement against the manual before quoting a set for it.
Yearly service for a gas log set
Gas log sets need looking after. One maker requires its vent-free burner and oxygen depletion sensor pilot to be inspected before use and cleaned at least once a year by a qualified service technician, more often where lint and pet hair build up.
Our maintenance visits clean the burner and pilot, reset any logs that have shifted and check the controls, the damper clamp and the flame. Booking one before the cooler months means the set is ready when you want it. Each visit ends with a written record of what was cleaned and checked, and any repair it found is priced before we do it.
