Choosing and fitting your gas logs
Sets and fittings carry upfront prices from our family-owned local team, and there are no hidden fees.
Natural gas or propane, matched to the rating plate
Every set is built for one gas, named on its rating plate. One maker states plainly that its burner is only for the gas on the plate, cannot be converted to another, and must not be installed if the supply is different. A natural gas burner run on propane, or the reverse, will not burn as it was designed to, and that is why the plate and the supply are checked together.
We confirm which fuel your home already has before recommending a set, and we order the version built for it. If your home has neither natural gas nor propane at the fireplace today, we explain what the supplier or a gas contractor would need to provide before a set can go in.
No wood fires once the set is in
A fireplace fitted with a gas log set becomes a gas fireplace. One maker's manual states that solid fuels must not be burned in a fireplace where a decorative gas appliance is installed. Burning wood on or around a gas burner can damage it and the logs. A decorative gas set sits where the wood fire used to be, and the two cannot share the same firebox.
If you still want the option of a wood fire, the set is the wrong choice for that fireplace, and we would rather tell you before installation. For homes that are ready to move to gas for good, we remove what the wood fires left behind and fit the set in a clean firebox.
The handover and the manual
The job ends with you able to run the set confidently. We light it with you, show the lighting and shutdown steps, the remote or switch, the damper clamp on a vented set and the log layout, and explain what to watch for. We also point out the shutoff valve, so everyone in the house knows how to turn the gas off at the fireplace.
The manual stays with the set, as one maker's installer instructions require, and you get a written record of what we installed. Keep both together for the next service visit.
What your written quote lists
Our gas log quote names the set, the burner, the ignition and control type, the removal of any old set, the cleaning or preparation the fireplace needs and the damper clamp on a vented installation. Supply work is named separately with who handles it. Each item carries its own price, so you can see what the set costs, what the fitting costs and what the preparation costs.
