A gas log set is not a universal product. Its manual lists the fireplace types and firebox sizes it is approved for, whether it is vented or vent-free, and the parts that come with it. A vented set needs the damper held open, usually with a damper clamp so the flue can never close fully.
We measure the firebox, check the chimney and damper, and match the set to what the manual allows. The gas supply is its own job. If the fireplace has no gas line yet, a qualified gas contractor or your gas utility handles that part, and we plan the log installation around it. We tell you up front which parts are ours and which belong to another trade.
Log placement matters more than it looks. Each set comes with a diagram, and the logs, embers and burner cover have to go back exactly that way after any cleaning. Rearranging the logs for a different look can change how the flame burns. If an installed set starts leaving soot or the flame looks wrong, stop using it and tell us what you saw.
Before the visit, find any paperwork for an existing set and let us know whether the fireplace has burned wood recently. A chimney that has burned wood should be cleaned before logs go in. If you already have an older gas log set, the same visit can cover cleaning the burner area, checking the ember material and confirming the logs sit as the diagram shows.
