When a dedicated circuit is needed
The built-in manual we follow recommends a dedicated, properly fused circuit for the heater. It treats that circuit as required if the breaker trips regularly while the heater runs, because other appliances on a shared circuit can push the total past its rating.
During the inspection we ask what else runs on the circuit you plan to use, such as lamps, a television or a space heater. If sharing looks likely to trip the breaker, we recommend a dedicated circuit and list it as electrician's work in the written estimate, with its place in the schedule.
Keeping the cord out of harm's way
A plug-in firebox manual we follow says the cord should not run under carpet, rugs or furniture. A cord trapped under a rug can be crushed or worn through without anyone noticing, and a heater cord carries a steady load.
Our installers route the cord along a clear path to the outlet and place the unit so no furniture rests on it. If the only route would cross a walkway, we suggest a different position or an outlet closer to the unit, added by an electrician.
An old gas connection in the opening
Some fireplace openings once held a gas appliance, and a gas line may still end inside them. An electric insert should never be pushed in front of a gas connection that nobody has dealt with.
A qualified gas professional shuts off and caps the old supply before we install anything. Our estimate names that step and who performs it, and we schedule the insert only after the gas work is finished and the opening is clear. The written record notes that the gas line was capped and by whom.
Dust, cleaning and a yearly check
Dust that builds up inside the heater can trap heat, and the built-in manual we follow asks for the heater to be inspected at least once a year. Power is switched off before any cleaning, and painted surfaces are wiped with a damp cloth.
At handover we show you the cleaning points your manual allows and the parts that should be left to service. Fireplace and chimney maintenance visits are part of what we offer, so the yearly check can come from the same local team.
