The glass front on a gas fireplace is part of how the appliance works, not just a window. On a direct-vent gas fireplace, the glass seals the firebox off from the room. A cracked, chipped or missing panel is a reason to stop using the fireplace until it is replaced, even when the flame still looks normal. Replacement glass comes as a complete assembly made for your model, with its gasket and frame.
Cutting a similar piece of glass to fit is not a safe substitute. A white or gray haze on the inside of the glass is another story. It builds up from normal burning and can often be cleaned once the fireplace is completely cool, using a cleaner the manufacturer approves. Harsh or abrasive products can scratch the surface.
We can clean it during a service visit and check the gasket and latches at the same time. The glass gets hot enough to burn. Many gas fireplaces have a mesh barrier screen in front of the glass, and older units can often be fitted with one made for that model. If you have small children or pets, ask us about the barrier for your fireplace.
Find the model information in the manual, or on the rating plate if you can see it without removing panels. Please do not run the fireplace with damaged glass while you wait for the part. Some gas fireplaces have a decorative front or screen that has to come off before the glass can be removed.
