The methods behind creosote removal in Wagner
Drying time with the fireplace out of use
A poultice needs time to work. The PCR data sheet says a completed application generally dries in 24 to 48 hours with natural air flow, depending on the weather, and recommends a chimney cap to keep rain from rewetting the material while it dries. Cooler or damper weather can push the drying time toward the longer end of that range.
The fireplace stays out of use during that period. We tell you the expected timeline for your Wagner chimney, and if the chimney has no cap, we discuss temporary protection or a new cap priced as its own line.
The follow-up sweep that finishes the job
When the poultice has dried, the PCR data sheet says the surface looks cracked and part of the material will already have dropped into the thimble, onto the smoke shelf or into the firebox. The rest comes off with normal sweeping. The sweep also removes any product left in corners the dried material did not fall from.
That sweep is part of the removal and appears on the estimate. Our crew brushes the flue, clears the smoke shelf and firebox, bags the debris and leaves the hearth clean, then shows you what came out of your Wagner chimney.
Why removal products stay in trained hands
The products that loosen glaze are strong. The PCR data sheet warns that it causes severe skin burns and eye damage and may cause respiratory irritation, calls for it to be mixed outdoors, and lists a respirator, eye protection, protective clothing and chemical gloves for anyone handling it.

Keeping the roof safe during treatment
Removal work happens on the roof as well as at the hearth. The PCR data sheet warns that product accumulating on ladders, scaffolding and roofs can make them slippery, and asks for surrounding areas to be protected from mixing splatter with a tarp or similar cover.
Our crew sets out tarps, keeps the product off the shingles and cleans any splatter before leaving. The area below the chimney is kept clear while we work, and the roof is left as clean as we found it.
