Flashing where the roof meets the brick
Flashing turns water away at the junction of roof and chimney. The Florida Building Code requires it there, and on a shingle roof it follows the shingle maker's instructions. On brick chimneys, the Brick Industry Association describes counterflashing mortared into a joint and lapped over the base flashing below it. Metal that was only glued to the face of the brick tends to pull away as the sealant ages.
