Insulation in the chase
It can be tempting to stuff insulation into a chase to stop drafts. Chimney makers are strict about it. The DuraTech manual allows only specified non-combustible insulation, only where its instructions describe, says fiberglass insulation is not approved, and says non-combustible insulation is not approved at the chase top.
We follow the manual for the chimney you have. If we find insulation packed against the pipe or in the required air space, we remove it and show you why before we close the chase.
Checking the chimney pipe while the chase is open
An open chase is a good chance to look at the chimney pipe itself. Rust, dents, separated joints and damaged support parts can all show up once the siding is off.
Damaged sections are replaced only with parts listed for that chimney. The DuraTech manual, for example, requires authorized parts only, forbids mixing parts from other products and says damaged or modified parts must not be installed. We tell you what we find and price it on its own line.
The height of the chimney above the chase
How high the pipe must stand above the roof is set by its maker. The DuraTech manual repeats the NFPA 211 rule, three feet or more above the roof penetration and two feet or more above any part of the building within ten feet.
A chase rebuild should not lower the termination. If the chimney already falls short, we explain what the maker's instructions require before any change is priced.
Matching the finish on a repaired chase
A repaired chase should blend with the rest of the house. New siding and stucco rarely match weathered material perfectly on day one, and some older profiles are no longer made. Stucco texture and paint sheen matter as much as color, and both are judged on site against the existing walls.
We discuss the closest available match before ordering, show you where new meets old and include priming and painting where the finish calls for it. If a face needs full replacement for a clean match, that option is priced separately.
