Firestop spacers where the pipe passes a ceiling
Where a prefab chimney passes through a ceiling or floor, a firestop spacer holds the framing back at the clearance the pipe was tested with. One Superior manual requires a firestop at each point where the chimney penetrates a floor space and describes how it is placed from below or set into the attic floor.

A chimney that has dropped even slightly can pull joints apart above the fireplace. Handling ash from a prefab firebox
Ash from a prefab firebox can hide live embers. The IHP guide says to put ashes in a metal can with a lid that closes tightly, stand it on a noncombustible floor or on the ground well away from anything that burns, and keep it shut until the cinders have cooled. NFPA heating safety advice adds that ashes should be cool before they go in, and that the container belongs well away from the house.
