The methods behind creosote removal in Altamonte Springs
Drying time with the fireplace out of use
A poultice needs time to work. The PCR data sheet says a completed application generally dries in 24 to 48 hours with natural air flow, depending on the weather, and recommends a chimney cap to keep rain from rewetting the material while it dries. Cooler or damper weather can push the drying time toward the longer end of that range.

Powder modifiers for glaze in a working flue
A different approach uses a powder modifier. SaverSystems' Cre-Away data sheet describes a four-component powder that turns glazed creosote into a more brittle form, which loses its adhesion through heating and cooling so it can be swept out more easily.
The data sheet says to apply it directly into the chimney and not in the fire, then burn a fire to trigger its catalyst, repeating with each new fire for about a week before the chimney is cleaned. Because it relies on continued fires, we suggest it only where an inspection has found the flue sound enough to use.
After a chimney fire
If a chimney fire starts, get everyone out first and dial 911 once you are outside. Nobody should stay in to fight it or check on it.
Once the fire department has cleared the home, keep the fireplace unused. DuraVent's liner instructions say that before a chimney is used after a fire, it must be inspected by a qualified person and cleaned or repaired as necessary. Our team then inspects the flue, removes remaining creosote and explains any repair it needs. Nothing about the flue is assumed safe until that inspection is done.
What a creosote removal estimate should say
A useful estimate names the removal method and product, the part of the flue and smoke chamber treated, the likely number of visits, the follow-up sweep, protection of the room and roof and any use restrictions. Repairs found afterwards are separate lines. Each line is written so you can see what it covers and approve it on its own.
