Under section R1003.9.1 of the Florida code, a masonry chimney cap needs a drip edge plus a caulked bond break between it and any flue liner. The bond break keeps the cap from locking onto the tile, so each can move with temperature without cracking the other. When the cap is poured tight against the tile, that freedom is lost.
