How we install chimney liners in Midway

A cap on top of the new liner
The listed system ends in a cap that keeps rain, debris and animals out of the liner. Where a spark arrestor screen is used on a masonry chimney, the building code sets how fine the mesh may be and requires it to be removable for cleaning.
We fit the cap that belongs to the listed system and fasten it to hold in wind. Its type and material are written in the estimate with the rest of the liner parts. A cap from outside the system is avoided, since it may not fit the liner or carry the same listing.
Airspace around an interior chimney
The building code keeps masonry chimneys separated from combustible framing by an airspace, which is larger for a chimney inside the house than for one built entirely outside it. That space protects the framing from heat passing through the masonry.
When the airspace is missing or cannot be confirmed, the liner plan changes, often to an insulated system. We explain what we could see in the attic or crawl space and how the plan responds to it. Protecting the room during relining
Relining involves work at the roof and at the fireplace, with debris coming down the flue. Furniture and rugs near the fireplace are covered, and the hearth area is protected before work begins.
We explain how long the work area will be in use and what you should move beforehand. At the end, the fireplace area is cleaned and the installed system is shown to you before we leave. Pets and children are kept clear of the work area while the flue is open.
Checking the draft after installation
Once the liner is connected, the appliance is operated as its instructions allow and the draft is observed at the connection. A liner sized and installed correctly should carry the exhaust up and out.
If the appliance itself shows a problem unrelated to the liner, we tell you and explain who services that model. The relining is finished only when the system works as installed. You see the connection and the top of the system before the job is signed off.
