A factory-built fireplace installed to its listing
Florida's building code accepts a factory-built fireplace only when it is listed and labeled and installed as its listing describes. The test standard is UL 127, and the label on the unit names the model and the listing it carries. A fireplace without a readable label cannot be matched to its instructions, which is why the label matters as much as the firebox itself.
We install every factory-built fireplace to its listing and its manual, read before the visit. The label stays visible where the manual places it, so any future inspector or technician can identify the unit without taking anything apart.
Building the chase
An exterior chase encloses the chimney on the outside of the house. One fireplace maker asks for it to be framed like the house walls, with the listed air space around the chimney, a noncombustible chase top and never a single-wall pipe inside.
Our crew frames and sheathes the chase to the manual and fits the chase top from the system. The outside finish can match your walls, and the estimate lists who handles it. Inside the chase, the chimney keeps its listed air space from top to bottom, and insulation stays off the chimney sections as the manual requires.
Enclosing the chimney inside the house
A factory-built chimney that passes through a closet, a storage space or a finished room needs to be enclosed. One chimney maker calls for that enclosure wherever the pipe runs through occupied or storage spaces, which keeps belongings away from it.
We plan the enclosure with the route and frame it with the listed clearance. If the chimney passes through a closet, we tell you how much space the enclosure takes before you approve the plan. Shelves, clothing and boxes stay outside the enclosure, and we point out its limits to you when the job is finished.
Yearly care for the new fireplace
Once a year, NFPA 211 says, chimneys, fireplaces and vents should be inspected for soundness, for freedom from deposits and for correct clearances. A new fireplace starts that cycle on its first anniversary.
Our maintenance visits let the team that installed your fireplace come back for that yearly look. Any work the visit finds is priced in writing first. The first yearly visit also confirms that the chimney parts, the chase top and the collar came through their first season as installed.
