No extension cords or power strips
The plug-in manuals we reference say to plug the fireplace directly into a wall outlet, never into an extension cord or a relocatable power tap. A heater draws steady current for long stretches, and a light cord or a crowded strip is the wrong place for that load.
When the nearest outlet is in the wrong spot, the answer is to move the unit or to have an electrician add an outlet where the unit will sit. We settle that choice at the planning stage, so nothing is improvised on installation day.
Manuals that differ on bathrooms
Two manuals from the same maker give different answers on bathrooms. The plug-in firebox is not for bathrooms, laundry areas or similar rooms, while the built-in linear unit may be installed in a bathroom when it has ground-fault protection and stays away from the shower and tub.
That difference is why we read the manual for your model before agreeing to a location. If the unit is not suited to the room you picked, we say so and suggest either another model or another room.
Keeping flammable products away
The earlier linear manual we reference says the unit should not be used where gasoline, paint or flammable liquids are used or stored. A heater element can ignite vapors even though the flame on the screen is only light.
That rules out some workshops, garages and storage rooms. We ask what the room is used for during the inspection and suggest another spot if paint cans or fuel are kept nearby. A garage conversion or a workshop can still work once the flammable products live elsewhere.
Model, serial number and paperwork
Warranty claims and parts orders go faster when the exact model and serial number are known. One manual asks owners to register the unit, and every manual is easier to find when it sits with the home's records.
