Fireplace insert installation details for Elder Springs homes
Each insert is fitted to its own manual, with repairs, liner and hearth priced in writing first.
A clean, clear flue first
One insert manual asks for the chimney to be suitable for wood and checked for buildup and obstructions before installation. Old nests, fallen debris and deposits left from years of open fires can all sit in the flue unseen.
We inspect the flue and, where it needs it, clean it before the liner goes in. The cleaning is priced separately in the written estimate, so you can see what the chimney needed and what the insert itself costs. Cleaning also lets us see the flue walls clearly before the liner goes in, so nothing is hidden behind it.
Chimney height and draft
Draft depends partly on how tall the chimney is. Two insert manuals we reference set a minimum height of 15 feet, and one of them also sets a maximum of 33 feet for its model.
We measure from the insert location to the chimney top and compare the figure with the manual for the model you want. When the chimney falls outside its range, we explain the options before any insert is ordered. A chimney outside the range can leave some models hard to start or slow to draft, so the height check comes before the purchase.
A grounded outlet for the blower
A blower-equipped insert needs household power. The manual we follow calls for a grounded three-prong outlet, forbids cutting the grounding prong and asks for wiring to the national electrical code.
We check for a suitable outlet near the fireplace during the free inspection. If one has to be added, an electrician does that work, and it appears as its own line in the estimate. We run the blower at handover so you hear it working before the first cool evening.
Starting hot, never overfiring
The high air setting on an insert is for starting and preheating. One manual warns against overfiring, which can overheat the insert and damage its parts.
Our specialists show you the settings for a new fire, a steady burn and an overnight load, as your model's manual describes them. A fire run within the manual's range lasts longer and treats the insert better. Signs of an overfired insert, such as glowing parts, are covered at handover, along with what to do if you see them.
