How long a powder treatment takes
The time a powder modifier needs varies. Its data sheet lists the type of wood, moisture content, burning habits, air flow, flue size and the amount of existing buildup as factors, and says some cases react within a week or two while harder buildup can take regular use and several cleanings during the heating season.
We set expectations accordingly. If a treatment needs weeks of use and repeat sweeps, the schedule and each visit are written into your estimate, and we check progress at every sweep. If progress stalls, we tell you and discuss switching to a different method.
Keeping the roof safe during treatment
Removal work happens on the roof as well as at the hearth. The PCR data sheet warns that product accumulating on ladders, scaffolding and roofs can make them slippery, and asks for surrounding areas to be protected from mixing splatter with a tarp or similar cover.
Our crew sets out tarps, keeps the product off the shingles and cleans any splatter before leaving. The area below the chimney is kept clear while we work, and the roof is left as clean as we found it. If the roof is steep or fragile, tell us when you book so the crew brings the right access equipment.
Creosote removal from a stainless steel liner
Stainless steel chimney liners appear alongside clay flue tile on the PCR data sheet's list of surfaces the product is made to clean. For routine cleaning of its own stainless liners, DuraVent calls for appropriately sized polypropylene chimney brushes and flexible fiberglass rods.
The liner in your chimney is identified before the method is chosen, and brushes and tools are matched to its size and material. After the deposit is out, the liner is checked along its length and at its connections at the top and bottom. A bent or crushed section is noted and explained, since it affects both cleaning and draft.
A written record of the removal
After removal, you receive a written note of what was found, the method used, the areas treated and the condition of the liner once it was clean. That record is useful when you sell the home, change how you heat or book the next inspection.
It also tells the next technician what to look for. If deposits return faster than expected, the record helps us trace why and adjust the advice for your Chuluota fireplace. Keep it with the house papers, and share it with any buyer who asks about the fireplace.
