How we replace a chase cover in Casselberry

Where the chimney pipe passes through the cover, the hole is the most exposed point on the whole top. In the Majestic manual, that opening gets a collar, 2 inches tall, soldered, welded or spun so there is no open seam. Rain running across the cover meets the collar and flows around it.

An old cover with a short, cracked or loosely riveted collar can let water drop straight into the enclosure beside the pipe. Our pros check the collar height and joints on your current top and build the new collar to the height your system's instructions require.

Sheet thickness and the minimum in the manual

Thin sheet flexes, dents under a ladder foot and settles into low spots. Manufacturers set a floor for it: the Majestic manual shows a galvanized chase top of at least .018 inch, listed as 26 gauge. Gauge numbers run backward, so a smaller gauge number means thicker sheet, which surprises many homeowners reading an estimate for the first time.

Putting the correct cap back on the pipe

The termination cap on a factory-built chimney belongs to the listed system. The Majestic manual, for example, calls for a cap approved and listed for that fireplace system. A universal cap from a hardware aisle is a different product, even if it seems to fit the pipe.
