Insulation and vapor barriers behind the unit
An earlier edition of one linear fireplace manual says the unit should not be in direct contact with a vapor barrier or insulation. Exterior walls often hold both, which matters when the opening is framed into one of them.
Our team checks what is inside the wall before we cut it and frames the opening so the unit's case stays clear of those materials. If the wall you picked is an exterior wall, we explain the extra framing it may need before you approve the plan.
What goes on the wall above
A shelf, artwork or television above an electric fireplace sits in the heater's warm air. The linear manual we follow marks warmer zones above the heater and tells owners to follow the recommendations of the maker of whatever is mounted there.
We read both sets of instructions before planning the wall. If the television maker's limits and the fireplace layout conflict, we tell you during the inspection, while the fix is still a line on paper and not a hole in the drywall.
An old gas connection in the opening
Some fireplace openings once held a gas appliance, and a gas line may still end inside them. An electric insert should never be pushed in front of a gas connection that nobody has dealt with.
A qualified gas professional shuts off and caps the old supply before we install anything. Our estimate names that step and who performs it, and we schedule the insert only after the gas work is finished and the opening is clear. The written record notes that the gas line was capped and by whom.
Level, square and straight trim
An electric fireplace shows every error in its setting. A unit that sits slightly off level makes the flame bed look tilted, and trim that is not square to the wall leaves an uneven gap along one side.
Our installers set the unit with a level, square the trim to the wall and check the glass from the seating area before calling the job done. Small corrections are made while the tools are still out, never left for another visit.
