Gas Fireplace

Getting your gas fireplace right in Woodruff Springs

Gas fireplaces repaired in Woodruff Springs after a free inspection of the unit, its controls and its vent.

Replacing a gas valve only when tests point to it

The gas valve is easy to blame for faults that start elsewhere. Before we recommend a new valve we rule out the pilot, the sensors, the switch circuit and the supply pressure, because each of them can mimic a failing valve.

When the valve does need replacing, the new one must be the part the manufacturer lists for that model and fuel. The Florida fuel gas code calls for appliance connections to be checked for leakage before an appliance goes back into operation, so every joint we open is tested before the fireplace is lit again. You see the result of that check before we leave.

A white or gray film on the glass

A cloudy white or gray haze on the inside of the glass is a different deposit from soot. One maker's manual attributes it to sulfur from the fuel settling on the glass, the logs and the firebox surfaces as the fire burns. It builds slowly and is easy to mistake for scratches.

Left in place, the film can mark the glass permanently, so the same manual asks for it to be cleaned with a cleaner made for gas fireplace glass, and only when the glass is cool. We clean it during service and show you how to keep it clear between visits.

Cracked glass means the fireplace stays off

The glass front on a direct-vent fireplace is part of the sealed combustion chamber. Manufacturers say plainly that the appliance must not run with the glass removed, cracked or broken, because flue gases can leak into the room. If the glass cracks while the fire is burning, one maker says to keep the door closed until the fire is out.

Replacement glass is ordered as the complete glass and frame assembly the manufacturer supplies for that model, never a cut piece from another source. Glass replacement is its own service, and during a repair visit we tell you straight away if the glass or its frame needs it.

Parts and labor priced in writing first

After the free inspection you get the findings in plain words and a written price for each item, with parts and labor on their own lines. No hidden fees are added, and anything we find once work has started is explained and priced before we go further.

When the work is done, you receive a written record of what was repaired or serviced and which parts went in. That record helps at the next service visit and for anyone who buys the house later. Services you schedule within 72 hours of your free inspection are 10% off.
