A look inside the chase while the top is open

With the cover off, the top of the chase is open for a short time, and it is worth looking down. The Majestic manual requires 2 inches of clearance between the chimney and combustibles or building insulation, and nothing should be packed against the pipe.

If the deck needs repair, that work is done on the same visit where possible, so the chase is never left open between trades.
