What a prefab fireplace repair involves in Lock Arbor

In the IHP guide the damper is a metal plate at the base of the chimney with two positions, open and closed. On one Superior line the handle sits in the upper front face of the unit and moves through a keyway slot, and a weight helps the blade swing open when the handle releases it.

The cap at the top of a prefab chimney
In the IHP design the metal chimney ends in a screened termination cap. Florida Building Code sections R1004.3 and R1005.2 keep decorative shrouds off the top of these chimneys unless the shroud carries its own listing and label for that exact chimney system and is fitted as the maker's instructions direct.
A rusted cap, a clogged spark screen or a shroud added for looks can all change how the fireplace draws. What a prefab fireplace should burn
Factory-built fireplaces are tested around ordinary wood fires. The IHP guide asks for wood seasoned about a year and warns never to burn trash, Christmas trees, plastics, cardboard or wood products with synthetic binders, or to start a fire with a liquid starter. Its warranty notes that fuels such as coal, plywood and binder products may burn at excessive temperatures and damage the unit.
