The warm trim around the heater

An electric fireplace has no open flame, but the trim around the heater outlet can get hot enough to matter. The built-in manual we follow says so and asks that young children be supervised near the unit.

We show you where the warm areas are during the handover and suggest spots for rugs, toys and pet beds away from the heater outlet. That conversation takes a few minutes and saves surprises on the first cool evening. The same goes for curtains and furniture that could drift toward the front of the unit.

The overheat cutoff

The built-in manual we follow describes an overheat limit that shuts the heater down when something is wrong, such as blocked airflow. On that model the reset is made at the main electrical panel, and repeated resets mean the unit needs service.

We explain how the cutoff works on your model and when a shutdown calls for a service visit. A unit that keeps shutting itself off is reporting a problem, and it should not be reset again and again.

Flame without heat

Some owners want an electric fireplace mostly for the look. On the linear line we reference, the flame effect switches separately from the heater, and a hardware kit can disconnect the heater and its fan permanently. Running the flame alone draws far less power than running the heater.

If you expect to run the flame far more than the heat, tell us during the inspection. We explain the settings your model offers, so you choose a unit and a setup that match how you will actually use it.

Model, serial number and paperwork

Warranty claims and parts orders go faster when the exact model and serial number are known. One manual asks owners to register the unit, and every manual is easier to find when it sits with the home's records.

We write the model and serial number into the written record of the installation and leave the manual with you. If the unit ever needs a part, the details are ready for the maker or the next technician.
